The Latest NewsletterSTOP PRESS – CHANGE OF DATE DUE TO CLASH WITH HARVEST
It’s nearly that time of year again!
THE AUTUMN WORKING PARTY
Saturday, 9thOctober starting about 9.00 am.
We intend to do it a little differently this year and pay to have the hedges cut the week before so that we do not have the problem of getting rid of the trimmings. This will then allow us to do the jobs that usually get missed due to lack of time, such as sweeping the car park (stiff yard brooms needed please) and general weeding and tidying around the buildings. While in the church and hall some serious dusting and cobweb removal is needed. The kitchen needs a deep clean and it would be great if we could get a team to take on this essential task.
So put this date in your diary now – many hands make light work and the more of us there are the sooner we can get finished and go home.
Thanks
Church Wardens AT HOME 5 Lindencroft - 14th September 1.30—4.30 p.m. Tea and Cakes in aid of St George’s Church HARVEST The flower arrangers are now thinking about the Harvest Festival which falls on 3rd October. If anyone would like to donate money for the flowers for this occasion, we would be most grateful. Please see Deirdre Williams or Fiona Eve. It would also be useful to have greenery delivered to the Vestry door early on Friday 1st October. Thank you for your help. Deirdre Williams BACK TO CHURCH SUNDAY, 26th September There are invitation cards out on the pews for you to take and give to someone you would like to invite to come ‘back to church’. Please take them and consider who you would like to invite ‘back to church’. More invitations are available from the Parish Office. LAUNDE ABBEY RETREAT 2011 Dear All. Since taking down the list on Sunday from church, I have managed to lose it before making a copy of the names. Could those who are interested either see me after church or sign up on a new list at the back if I am not available. Many apologies for this. Tim Letchworth Town Centre Collection in Aid of the Children's Society 11th September 9am to 1pm If anyone could spare an hour during the morning of Saturday 11th September to shake a collection box in the town centre it would be very much appreciated. CHALLENGING THE DARKNESS This is the Abbey Lock In taking place from 8 p.m. on Friday, 29th October to 7 a.m. on Saturday, 30th October. The event was very successful last year and it will be even bigger and better this time. So, what have they got happening this year? · Worship - come and worship with hundreds of other young people · Surf Simulator - ride the waves for as long as you can before you fall off! · Speed Cage - where you can compete to be the fastest · Shoot Out - if you fancy yourself as the next Beckham · Circus Skills - have a go at all sorts of things, including juggling, stilts, tight rope. · Prayer labyrinth - journey through the labyrinth. · Cinema · Wii games · Chill Out area · Hot Chocolate & Toast, and more... It is for young people (school year 8+) and if you are interested in taking part in this, please contact Michael Eve, 624659. Closing date 24th September. Youth Groups Sofa Group & Streetdragons will be returning shortly after the summer break: 16th & 17th September. Pauline is taking on full-time work this term and feels she cannot continue to support both Sofa Group & Streetdragons on a regular basis. Whilst we have planned the programmes it is important to find more adults to help run our Youth programmes. Our current level of activities (& compared to some Churches we do not do ‘that much’), are not sustainable with our current adult teams. The last thing I want to do is allow these groups to flounder whilst we are in a vacancy! PLEASE – I would ask you all to pray about our youth work in this Parish & for anyone to consider if they have some time & energy to give to our young people – they are not the ‘future’ of our Church – they are ‘to-days’ Church!! Thank you, Michael. SPONSORED BIKE RIDE Saturday, 11th September If you haven’t signed up to help yet, please do so to-day! There is still time to do a sponsored ride or walk round the many churches in the area. Forms are at the back of church. SNAPSare holding their favourite event next Saturday 11thSeptember. N’Autumnbury – THEmusic festival of the season – a great band line up, beer tent and children’s entertainment. 1.30pm to 10.30pm at St Nicholas school. More details from snapschat@yahoo.co.uk
